Every week we bring you some top betting tips from our Brand Ambassador John Barnes.
With the busy Christmas period coming to a close and the African Cup of Nations getting underway, many Premier League sides will be missing key players heading into the New Year.
Chelsea are still clear of the chasing pack at the top despite seeing their winning run come crashing down, while a handful of teams are fighting to avoid being in the bottom three as we enter a crucial part of the season. The January sales are very much on, and with teams looking to strengthen heading into the final stretch, we could see some players put themselves in the shop window.
We asked John Barnes to give us his tips for what looks another absorbing weekend in the Premier League.
Manchester United vs Liverpool
This is the clash of the weekend as arch-rivals and Premier League title contenders go head-to-head at Old Trafford on Sunday. Jose Mourinho is beginning to get it right at Manchester United and his side are currently on a nine-game winning run with Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic proving their worth after big summer moves. Liverpool have been revolutionised under Jurgen Klopp and have become, arguably, the league’s most exciting side. But the absence of Sadio Mane at the Africa Cup of Nations will be a big miss, meaning Daniel Sturridge will need to step-up against a rugged United defence.
John Barnes’ tip: Liverpool legend John is backing his former side to earn a 2-2 draw with both sides looking to attack. The midfield battle will be key, with Ander Herrera versus Adam Lallana an interesting duel in what promises to be a gripping clash.
Leicester vs Chelsea
Chelsea’s defeat against rivals Tottenham saw them fall just short of a record 14-winning game streak in the Premier League but Antonio Conte’s side have the perfect chance to bounce back against struggling Leicester. Chelsea are still clear at the top of the table and will be looking to key man Diego Costa to rediscover his form after being kept quiet against Spurs. The Foxes will be wary of a backlash, and despite seeing their Premier League title defence go down like a lead anchor (almost as badly as Chelsea’s last year), Claudio Ranieri will be looking to steer his side away from a potential relegation battle.
John Barnes’ tip: The BonusCodeBets ambassador expects Chelsea to bounce back at the weekend with a 2-1 win over Leicester. If you follow John’s advice, you can expect odds of around 7/1 at the bookies.
Everton vs Manchester City
It’s been far from plain sailing for both Pep Guardiola and Ronald Koeman, who have failed to have the impact they anticipated after arriving at their new clubs in the summer. Manchester City were tipped to romp to Premier League glory after the Spaniard’s appointment but find themselves in a battle to finish in the top four and are seven points behind runaway leaders Chelsea. After Everton’s takeover and the appointment of Koeman, many expected the Toffees to be pushing for European places, and while they’re in seventh, many fans are unhappy with the apparent lack of growth so far. A last-minute defeat by arch-rivals Liverpool saw the pressure grow on Koeman, while they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Leicester after throwing away a one-goal lead.
John Barnes’ tip: The former England international is backing a 3-1 win for City. Everton’s patchy form gives Guardiola’s the edge at Goodison Park.
