Another Premier League tips article from us, and another that starts by saying Manchester City won in the last matchday. Perhaps we should just assume they’ve won from now on to save electricity.
The biggest shock of the last matchday was 2nd placed Manchester United scraping a draw thanks to a 91st minute Jesse Lingard equaliser. You get the feeling that Manchester United should start looking over their shoulders, especially as Chelsea picked up another 3 points to move within one point of second place.
The most impressive performance of the round came from Tottenham in a fantastic 5-2 victory which brought our Tottenham & Over 2.5 goals tip home. Harry Kane scored his second hat-trick to break Alan Shearer’s calendar year record and also become the top scoring player in Europe for 2017.
At the bottom of the table, poor old Swansea were soundly beaten 5-0 by Liverpool.
We’re going to take a look at the best Premier League tips for the next instalment of the Premier League Christmas schedule.
Premier League Tips – Chelsea have won 10 of their last 11 home matches against Stoke in all competitions
After a fantastic season last year, Chelsea have flown under the radar a bit this year. That is in large part due to the fact that Manchester City are running away with the title. But Chelsea are certainly looking like a team preparing to mount a serious challenge to grab that second spot.
They are still yet to hit the heights that they did last season, but that is due in large part to the added commitments that this season has brought with it. Namely, the Champions League.
And with Diego Costa still sunning himself on a Brazilian beach ahead of his move to Atletico Madrid, Chelsea have had to bed Morata into their line up, as well as trying to integrate Christensen, Rudiger and Bakayoko into the first team.
But things look like they’re finally coming together for Conte’s men. With no Champions League commitments until February, now is the time for them to put together a run of wins.
This aim will be aided by the fact that just David Luiz is unavailable for selection.
Stoke on the other hand, are in dire trouble, and just points off of the drop zone. With 1 win in 5, Mark Hughes will be starting to feel a bit of pressure. And he faces the task of stopping Chelsea without Zouma who can’t play against his parent club, Martins Indi who is injured, along with Shawcross who is also a doubt. With Chelsea having kept three clean sheets in a row, and being on a run of 3 games coming in at under 2.5 goals, we think the first of our Premier League tips is a winner.
Premier League Tips – There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Man Utd’s last 7 games (Premier League)
Jose Mourinho seems to have delved deep into his book of excuses in recent weeks. Most recently, he questioned how he can be expected to win the title when Manchester City spend so much money.
When a Football manager says the 300 million he has spent is not enough money, he is unlikely to gain much sympathy.
Manchester United are now without a win in 3 matches in all competitions, which may explain why Mourinho is starting to show signs of flapping under the pressure. Which is unusual for him.
History tells us though, that Mourinho usually bounces back during times like these.
He will have to do so without a long list of absent players, though. Carrick, Bailly, Fellaini, Valencia and Smalling are all out of the squad to face Southampton. Rojo is also out after picking up his 5th booking of the season, after just 5 appearances, which is some achievement. Darmian and Martial are also doubts.
Southampton aren’t going through the best of times themselves. They’ve just lost defender Virgil Van Dijk, and they’re coming off the back of a 5-2 hammering against Tottenham. Soares, Bertrand and Austin are missing for Southampton.
In the second of our Premier League tips, we’re backing moany Mourinho to rediscover his Christmas spirit with a comprehensive Manchester United win.
Premier League Tips – Liverpool have scored at least 3 goals in their last 3 matches
Liverpool fans will be hopeful that their world record transfer is going to solve all of their defensive woes. Virgil Van Dijk has a lot of pressure on his shoulders after becoming the most expensive defender of all time.
Whether you feel that transfer is utterly bananas or not, you’ll have to wait a while to find out. Van Dijk is not yet available for selection.
However, when you have a forward line in such fine form, the defence isn’t so much of a concern. Liverpool look like they can outscore most teams they face at the moment. Coutinho, Mane, Salah and Firmino are a scary prospect for any defence.
Leicester on the other hand have also looked impressive going forward recently, but they can’t find the same level of consistency. Great performances against Southampton, Newcastle and Manchester United were spoiled by defeats to Crystal Palace and Watford.
Leicester travel to Liverpool with their injury list shortening. Just Robert Huth and Danny Simpson are injured. And one of the strangest transfers in the history of Football will finally see Adrien Silva get his chance to play for Leicester from January 1st. So things are looking promising for Leicester.
In the final of our Premier League tips, we are backing another Liverpool goal fest.
