The start of the new Premier League season is here. Check out our tips for Matchweek 1.
Arsenal have won their last 7 home matches against Leicester in all competitions
Arsenal made a big early move in the transfer market when they brought French striker Alexandre Lacazette to the club. It is surprising that the forward hasn’t left France before now, but he is expected to hit the ground running and add a new dimension to the Gunners attack.
However, they haven’t come out of the summer window completely unscathed, and it is highly likely that star player Alexis Sanchez will be departing the club before the window closes. He is a big loss, and is is down to Lacazette to replace him.
Arsenal start the season with injuries a big concern, and Cazorla remains a long term absentee, Koscielny is suspended, with Mustafi, Wilshere, Ozil, Ramsey, Coquelin and Gabriel all doubtful. Arsenal should still be confident though, having won their last 5 matches at the Emirates.
Leicester also signed a star striker of their own, bringing Man City youngster Iheanacho to the club. He threatens to form a promising forward line with Jamie Vardy, where pace is certainly not going to be in short supply. This could trouble the gunners defence as Mertesacker is likely to start for Arsenal.
Leicester have a few injury concerns too, with Vincente Iborra, Slimani, Huth, and Drinkwater doubtful.
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Chelsea’s last 8 home games
Last seasons Champions start the season after a hit and miss summer. Chelsea manager Conte has been quite vocal in his unhappiness that his squad hasn’t been bolstered further.
However, by most team’s standards, they have done pretty well spending nearly £150million on 3 players. Spanish Striker Alvaro Morata looks to be the pick of the bunch, and Chelsea fans will be hoping he can translate his Real Madrid scoring record into Premier League goals.
Due to Victor Moses facing a suspension due to his red card in last year’s FA Cup final, it is likely that Azpilicueta will start on the right in his absence. This leaves space in the back three for new boy Antonio Rudiger to make his debut.
Burnley have had a hit and miss summer themselves. While they have brought experienced campaigners Jack Cork, Jonathan Walters and Phil Bardsley to the club, they have lost star players Michael Keane and Andre Gray to Premier League rivals.
Burnley are notoriously bad away from home, and questions marks will be asked over whether they can turn that around this season.
Suggested bet: Chelsea win and over 2.5 goals @ 1.73 (Sky Bet)
Everton have seen under 2.5 goals in 14 of their last 17 matches against Stoke in all competitions
Everton have had one of their most productive windows of all time, and it looks like they will making further changes over the coming few weeks.
So far they have spent 100million, with a whole range of players joining the club. This has been at the expense of losing star striker Romelu Lukaku though, and it is expected that Ross Barkley will also be leaving before the window closes.
Everton have a few injury concerns ahead of this fixture, with Funes Mori, Barley, Coleman and Bolasie definitely out. McCarthy and Lennon are doubts.
Stoke have had a mixed window, and after losing Marko Arnautovic to West Ham, have brought in Choupo-Moting to replace him. They are yet to spend any money though, and their signings so far have been free transfers.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in Man Utd’s last 9 home games
Manchester United look set to line-up with a new look spine to their team, with new boys Lukaku and Matic set to start up front and in central midfield.
Jose Mourinho has stated he would like more signings, and has been frustrated in his attempts to sign Perisic from Inter Milan. He has also been linked with a huge bid for Wales star Gareth Bale, but a deal still looks a long way off.
The challenge for Manchester United this season will be whether they can turn around their home form. Too often last season they were held to 0-0 draws, and Lukaku is seen as the man to rectify that.
West Ham have also been busy in the transfer market, and three of their new boys are expected to start. Former Manchester United striker Chicharito is expected to face his old club, with Arnautovic, and Zabaleta also taking a place in the starting line-up.
