This weeks tips from Brand Ambassador John Barnes are for the next round of the FA Cup.
The fourth round of the FA Cup is upon us, with 32 teams still vying to get their hands on the country’s most famous trophy.
With the prospect of some giant-killings, who better to guide you through the best bets than two-time FA Cup winner and BonusCodeBets ambassador John Barnes – who’s given us his predictions to help you win big this weekend.
Liverpool vs Wolves
Defeat in the EFL Cup semi-final to Southampton on Wednesday night left Liverpool’s hopes of winning silverware hanging by a thread. Jurgen Klopp’s side were punished by their lack of composure in front of goal when Shane Long fired past Loris Karius in injury time at Anfield. The Reds’ Premier League title-challenge has stalled at present, as Chelsea continue to run away at the top. The FA Cup could be Klopp’s last real opportunity to lift a trophy this season and he may look to field a stronger side than the youngsters he sent out in the third round. Divock Origi, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino are all in line to start as the Merseysiders aim to end their recent slump in form.
Wolves will be no easy victory and have improved since Paul Lambert took charge. The Midlands-based side have some real attacking talent in their side, with loanee Helder Costa attracting interest from a host of Premier League sides.
John Barnes’ tip: The BonusCodeBets ambassador thinks Klopp’s side will bounce back from the midweek defeat and seal their place in the fifth round. John is confident Liverpool have enough about them and is backing the his former club to win 3-0.
Crystal Palace vs Man City
Neither manager has had the start they imagined when taking over Crystal Palace and Manchester City. Sam Allardyce’s only victory, since taking over from Alan Pardew, was during an FA Cup replay over League One’s Bolton Wanderers.
The Eagles are in real trouble in the Premier League and slipped into the relegation places over the weekend. Big Sam was brought in to steady the ship but so far is finding it stormy, to say the least.
Pep Guardiola was the big name over the summer and he was tipped to lead City to glory during his debut season in the Premier League. But something isn’t working, as with his players, some ageing, struggling to cope with Pep’s fluid and vigorous style of football. It doesn’t help that his goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, is flapping at anything that comes his way too.
John Barnes’ tip: Despite City’s unconvincing performances, John is tipping them to be too much for a leaky Palace defence. Big Sam has recently changed to a 3-5-2 formation but a 3-1 win for the Citizens is how John sees the game panning out.
Southampton vs Arsenal
Claude Puel and his players could still be suffering from the celebratory hangover when they host Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round. The Saints scored an injury-time winner at Anfield to book their place in the EFL Cup final at the expense of Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk missed the clash and will be absent on Saturday, with promising young defender Jack Stephens likely to keep his place in the starting 11.
Arsene Wenger needs some silverware and he needs it soon, as unrest amongst the supporters continues to grow. The Gunners are second in the table, but remain some way off Chelsea and supporters are unhappy with the way Wenger is running things at the Emirates. Alexis Sanchez’s and Mesut Ozil’s long-term futures remain unclear but both are likely to play at St Mary’s over the weekend. Wenger has good pedigree in the FA Cup and he will see the competition as the perfect platform to silence some the critics.
John Barnes’ tip: Olivier Giroud could prove to be a handful for a young Saints backline and will look to target Stephens, who is poised to partner Maya Yoshida once again. John feels it’ll be a tight contest, but is backing Arsenal to get the better of proceedings with a 2-1 win.
