Every week we bring you some top betting tips from our Brand Ambassador John Barnes.
The third round of the FA Cup is always one of the most eagerly anticipated in the footballing calendar, with even fans of the smallest teams dreaming of giant-killings and a trip to Wembley in May.
Who better to guide you through the best bets for the third round than two-time FA Cup winner and BonusCodeBets ambassador John Barnes – who’s given us his predictions to help you win big this weekend.
West Ham v Man City
The London Stadium’s first ever FA Cup game kicks off the round, as West Ham host Manchester City on Friday evening. The Hammers enjoyed a fine run in the cup last year, reaching the quarter-finals, before being knocked out by Manchester United. They’ll hope for a better return against the side from the blue half of the city this time around. City boss Pep Guardiola will be making his FA Cup bow too – he has won the domestic cup in Spain and Germany twice apiece, and with Premier League aspirations slipping away, this could prove the biggest chance for his first silverware in England.
John Barnes Tip: John is backing a 1-1 draw between West Ham and Man City on Friday, meaning the pair will contest a replay in two weeks’ time. City haven’t won on either of their last two trips to West Ham, with their league clash a year ago also finishing in a draw. If you fancy betting on John’s tip, it is available at around 7/1 with the bookies.
Tottenham v Aston Villa
Tottenham’s improvement since Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment in 2014 has seen them go from also-rans to genuine trophy contenders, and the Argentine would love to cap the resurgence with a return to Wembley in May. The eight-times winners haven’t lifted the FA Cup since 1991, but stand a major chance of doing so this year. In their way this weekend are the losing finalists of 2015, Aston Villa. The Midlanders slipped into the Championship last season after a miserable campaign, and sacked new manager Roberto di Matteo as they struggled in the second tier. However, fortunes have improved since the appointment of Steve Bruce in October, and they remain hopeful of an immediate return to the Premier League. Another cup run (Bruce reached the 2014 final as Hull boss) could help boost confidence during the second half of the season.
John Barnes Tip: John thinks Spurs will march on to the fourth round, with a 2-1 victory on Sunday. Tottenham have won 11 of their last 13 meetings with Villa, and after a good run of form through the festive period, will be hopeful of a comfortable win over a side from the division below.
Man Utd v Reading
Last year’s winners Manchester United have a different manager since lifting the trophy, but one who knows plenty about the FA Cup. Jose Mourinho won the competition in 2007, beating United in the final, and will be keen to get the Red Devils’ defence of the trophy off to a good start against Reading. The Royals have a fine recent record in this competition, reaching at least the quarter-finals in four of the last seven years, despite often indifferent league form. Boss Jaap Stam returns to the ground where he won the treble in 1999 during three seasons as a United player, and he’d be delighted to get one over his former side.
John Barnes Tip: United have racked up seven straight wins in all competitions, and John is backing them to make it an eighth on Saturday. He’s tipping a 2-0 win for Mourinho’s men – a score that is priced at around 5/1 with the bookies.
